CREXDATA will be present at GISTAM 2024

Date: May 2, 2024
Location: Angers, France

The International Conference on Geographical Information Systems Theory, Applications and Management (GISTAM) aims at creating a meeting point of researchers and practitioners that address new challenges in geo-spatial data sensing, observation, representation, processing, visualization, sharing and managing, in all aspects concerning both information communication and technologies (ICT) as well as management information systems and knowledge-based systems.

The conference includes original contributions of either practical or theoretical nature, presenting research or applications, of specialized or interdisciplinary nature, addressing different aspects of geographic information systems and technologies.

CREXDATA will be present at the 10th edition of this conference, presenting on May 3rd 2024, the work “An Augmented Reality System Architecture for Flood Management“, by some researchers of the the Technical University of Crete.

Flooding represents a considerable danger to both human lives and possessions, rendering it a prevalent natural hazard. Navigation and risk assessment methods, in dynamically changing flood environments, are dependent on flood visualization methods. Addressing the limitations of 2D visualization as well as Virtual Reality (VR) setups that are employed in off-site simulations, this paper presents the system architecture of a novel system for real-time urban flood management utilizing head-worn AR, integrating extreme scale data. Our system architecture will offer a depiction of urban flood inundation in the city of Dortmund, Germany, dynamically visualizing potential evacuation routes and water levels, on-site, in urban areas, while rescuers are in operation. The system’s integration with large-scale data analytics will allow the dynamic combination of weather forecasts, sensor networks, historical flood data and urban topography.
