CREXDATA and FloodWaive Forge Alliance to Revolutionise Flood Management with AI Surrogate Models

Date: June 05, 2025

The EU-funded project CREXDATA is proud to announce a new strategic collaboration with the innovative German start-up, FloodWaive. This partnership, spearheaded by the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at Paderborn University, aims to leverage the power of AI surrogate models for real-time flood simulation, significantly enhancing emergency management capabilities

In the face of increasingly dynamic and fast-evolving risk scenarios such as flooding, the ability to make rapid, data-driven decisions is paramount. Traditional simulation approaches often fall short in providing the necessary speed and efficiency. AI surrogate models, however, present a groundbreaking opportunity to enable real-time simulations, critical for managing urgent situations in hazard response.

The CREXDATA and FloodWaive teams meet to kick off the collaboration. (From left to right: Julian Hofmann (FW), Deniz Özcan, Sascha Welten (FW), Dr.-Ing. Jens Pottebaum, Niklas Döhner, Adrian Holt (FW), Marcel Ebel).

This collaboration will focus on making data-driven predictions for critical decision-making faster and more efficiently than ever before. FloodWaive, specializing in AI-powered real-time flood forecasting, brings invaluable expertise in hydrology and artificial intelligence to the CREXDATA project. Their contribution will be instrumental in the development and validation of AI-based flood scenario models within the project’s framework.

We are delighted to welcome FloodWaive as an agile and solution-oriented partner. Their specialized knowledge will be pivotal as we work towards more resilient communities and advanced disaster management technologies, aligning with the goals of Horizon Europe to foster innovation and address climate adaptation challenges. This initiative underscores CREXDATA’s commitment to advancing digitalisation and smart city solutions for enhanced disaster resilience.
