The Technical University of Crete (TUC), partner and coordinator organization in the CREXDATA project, proudly participated in the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE), held from May 19 to 23, 2025, in Hong Kong
The session introduced a novel optimization algorithm named DAG*, a significant contribution developed within the project.
The DAG* algorithm is engineered to enable efficient and optimal workflow execution across the complex cloud-to-edge continuum. By intelligently pruning vast portions of the search space, DAG* achieves remarkably faster optimization times while guaranteeing the optimality of the resulting workflow execution plans. This advancement marks a key step forward in the management of data-intensive applications.
The annual IEEE ICDE conference stands as a premier event in data and information engineering, offering a leading forum for researchers, practitioners, and developers to share cutting-edge ideas and exchange techniques, tools, and experiences. CREXDATA’s presence at this event underscores the project’s commitment to advancing the state-of-the-art and disseminating its results to the global scientific community, reinforcing the impact of European-funded research.

The poster presentation was accompanied by a presentation by Errikos introducing this innovative algorithm enables efficient and optimal workflow execution across the cloud-to-edge continuum. By intelligently pruning vast portions of the search space, DAG* achieves significantly faster optimization times while still guaranteeing the optimality of the resulting workflow execution plans. The annual IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE) is one of the premier conferences in data and information engineering and addresses research issues on designing, building, managing, and evaluating advanced data intensive systems and applications. It is a leading forum for researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore cutting-edge ideas and to exchange techniques, tools, and experiences.
